Hey lovely people!
In today’s post, I want to share a few tips to help you put together a glam Christmas tree for the season.
First, I want to confess that I am a recently retired “grinch.” In fact, 2019 was the first year in all of my adult life that I decorated for Christmas! I was pleasantly surprised how much fun and soothing it all is. It’s even better when I get to stare at something pretty too!
Last year I spent a couple hundred bucks on decor procuring the tree, ornaments, garland and other decor knick knacks. Of course the tree was the largest expense but it came in under $100. I personally love the flocked trees the best. I even splurged a little during the clearance sales after the holiday to prepare for this year. From my trial and error, I think the following tips will help you design a tree you love.
- Figure out your standard base color: I decided gold and silver would be a standard base for me each year. Throughout the house last year I used gold and silver combos and pops of blue here and there. This year I wanted black to be a focal color but because I already had a good amount of gold accents, it made it very easy to spend an extra $20 on black ornaments and ribbon because I had already built my “standard base color.” If next year I decide I want to do teal I can pair it with the silver or if I want to do purple, I can pair it with the gold. Get my drift?
- Ribbon goes a long way: I did some single black ribbon inserts and some black and gold ribbon layers that drape across the tree. It really stands out and because I started with the ribbon first, I used fewer ornaments to adorn the tree. Be sure the ribbon is wired. When I pack up everything in the new year, I can preserve the ribbon too so there won’t be any waste.
- Use flowers, picks and sprays: Tree topper options are endless but I have flowers, picks, and sprays at the top of mine and the beauty is that I get to use them in other parts of the house even when the holiday is over. Having things that are multipurpose makes the investment a bit easier.
- Matching wrapping paper: Someone commented on a picture via social media and complemented me on being extra prepared since I already had gifts under the tree. Guess what: they are fake! I just wrapped some empty boxes in matching black and gold paper to make it look more complete from top to bottom.
Let me know in the comments, are you doing something nontraditional with your colors or adopting a new theme this year? What’s your Christmas decor style?
Until next time,
Tempestt
